I moved to Astoria about a year and a half ago [October 2014] after just getting married. I had been working in a job that gave me no time to breathe, let alone work out. I had gotten to my highest weight - 152lbs, which is a lot being that I’m only 5' tall. I was so ashamed for letting myself get to that point.That summer [August 2015] I was at my bachelorette party on the beach in Fire Island & I refused to take off my cover up. I knew I had to make a change. First I had to leave my job and get some “me” time back. Luckily I was able to find a new job at Madison Square Garden which gave me the opportunity to have time for myself. In January 2015 I joined Matrix Fitness Club. I chose Matrix for a bunch of reasons: cleanliness, friendliness of staff, and the diversity of equipment being some of them. However the real reason I chose Matrix was that it is not only for the hardcore workout enthusiasts, but a great atmosphere for beginners as well. I always feel comfortable working out here and now that I’m a “regular” I feel I fit in even more.
My workout journey started off slow, giving myself time to get back into the swing of things, but by May/June 2015 I was a regular, getting up every morning at 6am on the StairMaster burning tons and tons of fat. After 3 months, and working out 5+ days a week, I was down to 133lbs. By September 2015 I started weight training in addition to cardio & not only toned up but lost a few more lbs. I am currently at 127 & in the best shape of my life at 30 years old.
I am continuing to work out at Matrix in the mornings and I take classes in the evenings after work. I just recently ran my first 1/2 marathon in May and am qualifying myself for the full marathon in 2017. I have accomplished a lot & am thankful for having Matrix to go to every day.
